logoNovamedia is a social enterprise. It firmly believes that the world benefits from strong social organisations. Novamedia wants to contribute to a better world through charity lotteries, media and publishing activities. It is the creator and owner of various brands and lottery formats, including the Postcode Lottery. Postcode lotteries have now also been set up in Sweden, Great BritainGermany and Norway. Up to and including 2019, Novamedia’s lottery formats raised a total amount of more than €10 billion that has been donated to thousands of charities and social initiatives worldwide.

In addition to this, Novamedia has a passion for the connecting and enriching power of reading and is active in book-selling and publishing. It owns the Scheltema bookstore in Amsterdam and the publishing company Park Publishers, which consists of the publishers Podium, Bas Lubberhuizen, Fontaine Uitgevers, Nieuw Amsterdam and Wereldbibliotheek.

Novamedia believes that the world benefits from strong social organisations and well-informed citizens. There are social organisations either to provide direct help or to strive for sustainable improvements in the way society is organised. In both cases, knowledge and good organisation play a major role.

The two pillars of Novamedia:

In order to achieve the ideal of strong social organisations, Novamedia looks for permanent sources of income, support and inspiration to assist them.

From experience, we know that a lot of the energy of these organisations goes into raising funds. However, there is sometimes a lack of financial acumen when it comes to organising fundraising effectively. For this purpose, Novamedia sets up charity lotteries worldwide to provide financial support for organisations and initiatives of an idealistic nature. These lotteries also raise awareness of the work of these social organisations through television programmes, print and the Internet. Novamedia is the owner of various brands and lottery formats, including the Dutch Postcode Lottery. At the moment, there are charities lotteries operating in the Netherlands, Great Britain, Germany and Sweden.

Up to and including 2019, players in Novamedia’s lottery formats have raised a total of €10 billion for thousands of good causes and social initiatives worldwide. Since December 2019, Novamedia/Postcode Lotteries have been the second biggest private donor in the world on a yearly basis after the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (USA).

Novamedia also undertakes activities in the field of publishing that contribute directly to well-informed citizens and to the pleasure of reading.

Novamedia has always been active through new and traditional media. For example, in the past it was co-owner of the Call Factory and Independent Media. And as former employees of Novib, the founders of Novamedia helped their organisation and others to raise funds in the nineteen-eighties and nineties. Novamedia is active in the publishing field with the following subsidiaries: Uitgeverij Nieuw Amsterdam (including book funds Wereldbibliotheek and Bas Lubberhuizen) Podium and Fontaine Uitgevers, and the Scheltema bookstore in Amsterdam.

In short, Novamedia wants to use its investments in lotteries and media to contribute to a fair and fine world.

Lotteries abroad

In 2005, the success of the Postcode Lottery in the Netherlands prompted Novamedia to launch two more lotteries abroad – the Svenska PostkodLotteriet in Sweden and the People’s Postcode Lottery in Great Britain. In 2016, the Deutsche Postcode Lotterie launched throughout Germany. In 2018 the Norsk Postkodelotteri started in Norway

It’s all in the name: Novamedia is essentially a media company. From the very start, various forms of media were a specific vehicle to our organisation and we have proved that this particular field of expertise has no secrets for us.

"Novamedia's mission is to set up and operate charity lotteries all over the world to raise funds for charities and increase awareness of their work"

In 1989, we launched a new format which helped our accumulated knowledge reach its full potential. This was the year de Postcode Loterij saw the light of day. Since then, Charity Lotteries in several countries work with our formats and they have given us the opportunity to use our knowledge of the media landscape for the benefit of society. In the past 29 years, we have collected a dazzling sum of 10 billion euros for charity. Our main mission is to use our ambition and knowledge to stimulate and improve society.

A reliable and loyal financer

It is Novamedia’s ambition to be – with the lotteries – a loyal financer that provides long-term support for charities. Moreover, we would like to generate more income every year so that we can support even more social initiatives with our Charity Lotteries. The graphs show the turnover and contribution to society of all lotteries using Novamedia’s lottery formats.
