We're proud to announce that a record number of 515 green entrepreneurs have submitted their sustainable business plans and entered this year's edition, an increase of 75% compared to last year when 292 start-ups submitted their business plan. The entrants have a chance of winning the grand prize of EUR 500,000 to bring to market their product or service that helps combat climate change. Another EUR 200,000 is reserved for the runner-up. We’re very happy to see that the number of submitted entries from Africa (+162%), Asia (+30%) and South-America (+141%) has grown.

As in every year, most entries were submitted at the very last moment or even minutes before the deadline passed. Most entrants are from the United States (67), followed by the Netherlands (57), UK (33), Sweden (26) and India (26). The top five categories in which entries were submitted are:

1. Clean energy (260)
2.Cradle to Cradle (91)
3. Lifestyle (72)
4. ICT
5. (47) Mobility (41)

The road to the final

On 17 July, the preliminary jury will announce 25 nominees on our website. The 25 nominees are asked to complete an additional questionnaire with more in-depth questions to help the preliminary jury to make an informed decision about which five start-ups will go to the final. In mid-August, we shall announce which five start-ups that will be. These five finalists will be invited to Amsterdam to pitch their plan before an internationally acclaimed jury as well as a large, enthusiastic audience on 14 September.

The search goes on

In March 2018, the 12th edition kicks off. From that moment, entrepreneurs can submit their sustainable business plan up to 1 June 2018 to stand a chance of winning the grand prize of EUR 500,000.
