The BookSpot Literature Prize 2018 for the best Dutch-language literary book of the past year goes to De heilige Rita by Tommy Wieringa. The prize was awarded this year for the 32nd time on the TV programme RTL Late Night. In addition to an amount of €50,000, the author also received the sculpture that represents this prize.

Jos Geysels, chairman of a jury consisting of Dutch and Flemish professional critics, explained the jury's choice as follows: 'De heilige Rita is in every respect a classic novel by a master storyteller who knows how to surprise and charm, inspire and move'.

With the stipend of €50,000, made available by the online bookstore BookSpot, the Stichting Jaarlijkse Literatuurprijs voor Fictie en Non-fictie (Annual Literature Prize for Fiction and Non-fiction Foundation) wants to enable the author of the winning book to devote him or herself completely to writing for a full year. The other five nominees each received a prize of €5,000.
