Managing Directors of the People's Postcode Lottery

People’s Postcode Lottery is led by Country Director Annemiek Hoogenboom and Managing Directors Clara Govier and Lorna Menzies.

Annemiek HoogenboomAnnemiek launched the People's Postcode Lottery in Northern England in 2005, and in November 2008 in Scotland. The Lottery expanded into England and Wales in 2010. In 2016 she co-launched the Deutsche Postcode Lotterie, of which she is Managing Director.

A political science graduate, Annemiek started her career as a university lecturer at the University of Amsterdam, before moving to Sudan to set up a new communications faculty at Ahfad University in Omdurman.

Annemiek has also worked as a Senior Consultant for drinking water, agricultural irrigation and women’s empowerment and rights programmes with engineering firm DHV Consultants, travelling to India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, the Middle East and East and Southern Africa for development banks, governments and NGO's. In 1992 she founded her own consultancy company to help develop free media in Eastern Europe and founded the Management & Media Academy.

Responsible for bringing Nelson Mandela on board as an ambassador for the Dutch Postcode Lottery, Annemiek says her first ambition is "to raise funds for personalities and organisations who are a role model to make the world a greener and better place".

She was awarded the Women’s First Award in the category Leisure in the UK in 2014.

In 2015 she received an  honorary Doctorate in the Humanities from Ahfad University in Sudan for her decisive role in the introduction of women’s studies.

Clara has extensive experience spanning the communications and charity sectors. Prior to joining People’s Postcode Lottery in 2010, Clara held senior media relations roles at Scottish Wildlife Trust, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland.

Before being appointed as Managing Director in May 2018, Clara held Deputy Managing Director responsibilities and was also Head of Charities which saw her manage 18 charitable trusts and develop long-term funding relationships. 

Clara also holds positions on the board of the Nationwide Foundation, the Finance and Risk Committee and is an Associate Member of the Institute of Fundraising and the Association of Chief Executives of Scottish Voluntary Organisations.

Prior to her role at People’s Postcode Lottery, Lorna worked at STV as Commercial Producer. Lorna joined People’s Postcode Lottery in 2008 as TV Manager, bringing with her a wealth of experience in TV advertising and programme features.

Previously Head of Marketing, Lorna spearheaded much of the company’s success with her marketing campaigns and, in 2012, won Gold at the Marketing Society Scotland Awards in the Media category. The award was given for successfully taking People’s Postcode Lottery to a national audience through the use of detailed and innovative media planning and the introduction of Direct Response TV.

As well as being a Managing Director, Lorna is also Head of Television.


Robert was appointed to the role of Managing Director in December 2018, after working at People’s Postcode Lottery for over three years. Additionally, Robert is Head of Finance where he oversees financial strategy and reporting. He has spent the majority of his career working in broad finance roles, primarily in the banking and technology industry, as well as working as a research diver for a marine conservation charity in Africa.

Robert is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales, having trained and qualified with PwC after studying Economics at the University of Edinburgh.
